I’ve tallied up some of statistics and highlights from 2005 and here they are. I’ve included some from 2004 for comparison. Let’s top the numbers again in 2006. This includes everyone who was a Sumter member during 2005 including members who have transferred or were dropped for whatever reason. - Over 68,000 miles put on member’s motorcycles during our rides - Over 85,000 miles put on member’s butts (includes passengers) during our rides - If a member got credit for every ride we had he/she would’ve put 10,431 miles on their bike - I went almost 4000 more miles with the group than I did last year (9251 miles total this year).
- Allan was the high-miler in 2004 (except for the 1st and 2nd Officer) with 1906 miles o This year Allan finished with 6210 miles, but as tailgunner (a chapter officer) he doesn’t qualify as the high-miler (he expected to be at most of the rides).
- This year’s high-miler is Wayne Carty who has only been a member since June 2005, but finished the year with 6187 miles - 2nd Place goes to Mike Worley with 5421 miles (only a member since April 2005) - This is just for fun, I appreciate everyone whether you’ve gone 60 or 6000 miles. Just come out when you can (but stay in touch with me).
Unfortunately, we had some accidents this year. We had two accidents that happened to members on our official rides. Hopefully that will be zero at the end of 2006. I’m making some changes in how I lead rides to help us to that end, but everyone else needs to do their part to help out. Both accidents occurred after we had broke formation on some curvy roads. I guess you can say we’ve still never had an accident while we were riding as a group. We’ll be talking more about this soon. We also had our first member death. It wasn’t during one of our rides and I was the only one in the chapter that had met Mark Anthony (223027) since he never got to ride with us between when he joined and his accident but it was tragic nonetheless. His member number has been retired and there is a memorial page on our webpage. Sumter hosted the 1st Annual Polar Bear ride/party which was successful enough that there was the “2nd Annual” last weekend in Florence. A tradition was born. We had our first overnight trip to the mountains in May…I’d like to do that again this spring. We also had our first group multi-day trip when we went to Memphis. 11 members with seven bikes made the 1575 mile round trip safely. We’ll be doing more overnighters this year including Savannah, and the ultimate 10 day Sturgis trip. I’m also looking at going to the North Carolina State Rally in April. Maybe some others so keep checking the e-mail. Dave stepped down as 2nd Officer for personal reason, but remains a member…I’d like to thank him again for serving with me and helping me out. Maybe 2006 will see a new 2nd Officer. I’m always looking. Overall it was a good year. We had some growing pains in the club, but that’s going to happen anytime you get a group of free-thinkers together. Maybe we can use 2006 to mend some fences. On the bright side, we’ve met a lot of great people out on the road both from other SCRC Chapters, other clubs, and just independent riders. I’m looking forward to much more fun and miles in 2006. Hopefully we can keep the members we have and pick up some more new active members as well. We’ve got something going here that’s too good to keep it to ourselves. J
2004 End of year report:
-
Over 23,600 miles put on members motorcycles
-
Regular member with the most miles: Allan Cumming - over 1,900 SCRC miles 100% Accident Free
