Today
we met early at the Huddle House on the corner of Hwy 378 and Hwy
441. Allan and I got
there about
7:45
a.m.
and then we were joined by Mike, Guy, Curt, and Jerry around
8:00
a.m.
The four of them rode
in from
Columbia
together to join us. Mike
and Guy are members of our chapter while Jerry is a member of the
Midland
’s
chapter. Curt is not
currently a member that I know of, but he is Mike’s father-in-law
and has joined us on both our trips to the mountains this year.
From what I understand he lives near
Augusta
and rode all the way from there this morning.
The
six of us set off for
Lynchburg
around
8:45
.
We arrived up there around
9:30
where we met up with Mac, David, and Phyllis from the Pee-Dee
(Florence Chapter). The
parade took off around
10:00
.
It took us through downtown
Lynchburg
.
While the whole trip
was about 1.3 miles and only took about 20-25 minutes, it was fun. I
think Jerry said it best, “it’s a piece of
Americana
”.
The
Pee-Dee chapter headed back and the six of us rode back to Sumter
and went to Shucker’s to let the
Columbia crew warm up a little before riding back. We
had a good time making jest of the little
Lynchburg
parade. I had fun in
the parade and afterwards and I hope everyone else who rode also had
an enjoyable day.
After
we warmed up, the
Columbia
crew headed back and Allan and I decided to ride in the Shucker’s
Poker Run. I apologize
to anyone who was looking for us to ride in Ray’s Toy Run. After
hearing Kieth Lowder
was a friend of Robbie’s I decided to support the Poker Run. I’m
glad I did. I’m sure
Ray’s Toy Run was well supported, but The Poker Run turned out to
be pretty small.
It
had a good route though that took us down towards Manning and Lake
View Landing and
Goat
Island
.
Then it brought us back up and eventually to Hwy 261 up to
378. I’ve made a map
of the whole day’s route and will be posting it soon.
I’ll
also be posting some pictures sometime in the next couple of days
from the parade.
I
had a great day…about 159 miles for Allan and me.
The
Columbia
crew probably put a little over 100 by the time they got back. Thanks
to all those that came out.
